Our Story
My name is Kim Flynn and I am the owner and founder of The Tutoring Connection. I graduated from BYU in 1997 with a BA in English teaching and earned a CRLA advanced tutoring certificate in reading. After graduating, I taught/tutored English and reading at BYU-Idaho, Churchill Jr. High, Deseret Academy, Independence High School, and the Lehi Literacy Center
While teaching in the public schools, I was extremely concerned about students who were reading below grade level. Parents frequently asked me how to help their children get caught up with their peers. They said they wanted tutors, but I didn’t know any good ones to recommend, and as a teacher I didn’t have time to individually tutor all those who needed help.
When I had my first baby and became a stay-at-home mom, I was able to provide tutoring to some of the kids who needed help, but the demand was always greater than my time. I started looking for other experienced tutors who could help these students in need and started this business. The Tutoring Connection now has many tutors providing personal, one-on-one tutoring to many clients all over Utah County since 2000.
Kim Flynn has received business recognition as "Woman of the Year" at the 2006 Thanksgiving Point Women's Conference (www.lifechangeprogram.com). She has also been featured in Utah Valley Magazine, on the radio program "Ask a Woman," and the upcoming television program "Standing Up."
Kim also helps other women get started and organized in their home businesses. Find out more on how you can start your own small tutoring business.
